About our Superfruit Papaya, Papaws or Pawpaws:

The papaya is a tropical fruit that is grown in several countries. It is a small tree with large leaves and produces sweet-scented flowers. The fruit is called papaya, papaw, or pawpaw, depending on the region. The plant was first domesticated in Mesoamerica and is now cultivated in regions with a tropical climate. India is the largest producer of papayas. The flowers are dioecious, meaning there are separate male and female flowers. The fruit is typically eaten fresh and is known for its sweet taste and nutritional benefits.

Raw papaya pulp is primarily composed of water, making up 88% of its content, with 11% carbohydrates, and negligible amounts of fat and protein. In a 100-gram serving, papaya fruit contributes 43 kilocalories to the diet. While being a significant source of vitamin C, providing 75% of the Daily Value (DV), and a moderate source of folate, supplying 10% DV, papaya otherwise contains low levels of other nutrients.

The unripe green papaya fruit is frequently cooked before consumption due to its latex content. However, it is also consumed raw in Vietnam and Thailand. On the other hand, the ripe papaya fruit is typically eaten raw, after removing the skin and seeds. The seeds of the papaya are edible and possess a sharp, spicy taste. Additionally, the raw fruit can be ripened by exposure to sunlight. Furthermore, the young leaves, flowers, and stems of the papaya plant can be boiled with water changes and prepared for consumption.

You need to know the benefits of papaya:

Papayas contain an enzyme called papain that aids digestion; in fact, it can be used as a meat tenderizer. Papaya is also high in fiber and water content, both of which help to prevent constipation and promote regularity and a healthy digestive tract.

Choline is a very important and versatile nutrient found in papayas that aids our bodies in sleep, muscle movement, learning, and memory. Choline also helps to maintain the structure of cellular membranes, aids in the transmission of nerve impulses, assists in the absorption of fat, and reduces chronic inflammation.

Rich in Antioxidants: Papaya is abundant in antioxidants like vitamin C, carotenoids, and flavonoids, which help neutralize free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and lowering the risk of chronic diseases

Supports Digestive Health: Papaya contains the enzyme papain, which aids in the digestion of proteins. Consuming papaya or papaya supplements can help improve digestion.

Promotes heart health: The antioxidants and fiber in papaya contribute to heart health by lowering cholesterol levels, reducing inflammation, and improving blood circulation.

Improves skin health: Papaya is often used in skin care products due to its exfoliating and rejuvenating properties. It can help remove dead skin cells, reduce acne and blemishes, and promote a brighter, more youthful complexion.

* Papaya is native to Mexico. However, it grows naturally in the Caribbean and Florida too.

* According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), India produced the most papayas – over 5 million tons in 2013.

* It can be added to salads, smoothies, and other dishes.

* Papaya trees are known for their rapid growth, often reaching maturity within a year of planting. This fast growth rate makes papaya cultivation relatively quick compared to other fruit trees.

* Papaya extracts are commonly used in skincare products due to their exfoliating and skin-rejuvenating properties. They can help remove dead skin cells, reduce acne, and promote a brighter complexion.
