Nutrition facts about grapefruit:

It is composed of 90% water, 8% carbohydrates, 1% protein and negligible fat. A 100-gram serving provides 33 calories and is a rich source of vitamin C (40% Daily Value).

In summary, raw white grapefruit is very high in water and vitamin C but low in calories, protein, fat, and other micronutrients. It also contains moderate levels of citric acid, more than orange juice but less than lemon or lime juice.

In Costa Rica, particularly in Atenas, grapefruits undergo cooking to eliminate their sourness, transforming them into sweets. Additionally, they're stuffed with dulce de leche, creating a dessert known as toronja rellena, or stuffed grapefruit. In Haiti, grapefruits are primarily utilized for their juice, known as jus de Chadèque, while also being used to make jam, referred to as confiture de Chadèque. Grapefruit varieties are categorized by the color of their flesh, commonly yellow or pink. Their flavors vary from highly acidic and sour to sweet and tart, influenced by sugars, organic acids, and aromatic compounds like monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Grapefruit mercaptan, a sulfur-containing terpene, contributes significantly to the taste and aroma of grapefruits compared to other citrus fruits.
